Songcatchers Finds a New Home in New Rochelle

Songcatchers, a community music education organization, recently relocated to a new home at Holy Name School at 74 Petersville Road in New Rochelle after 27 years in its previous location on Washington Avenue.

The new facility allows for additional classroom space as well as dedicated space for the group’s larger instruments, including pianos and drums. It has also brought about the opportunity for the organization to expand its programming.

Executive Director Jennifer Lanser says that because of the increased space, Songcatchers

was able to offer lessons to ten children from their waiting lists for violin and piano.

With the new location also comes added programming. For the first time this year, Songcatchers added voice lessons to its repertoire by bringing on Juilliard voice student Isaac Ahn as a teacher.

Songcatchers youth volunteers can now participate in the new Songcatchers Orchestra, which gives them the opportunity to grow as musicians by being a part of an orchestra with members other than their classmates.

Lanser adds: “The vision of our founder, Sr. Beth Dowd, OSU, to move into a space that will allow Songcatchers to grow with accessibility for all is being realized with this move.”
